      <image:title>What We Believe</image:title>
<image:caption>At Ulverstone Christian Reformed Church, we believe: the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the final authority on everything to do with faith and life. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. God sent him to earth to live a perfect life and to die on a cross, cursed by God. Three days later he rose from the dead, proving that he was who he said he was and proving that he defeated death. Everyone who trusts in Jesus will be rescued from the punishment they deserve due to their rebellion against God and one day be raised to everlasting life. We tell others the good news so that through faith in Jesus we can all have hope for the future. To find out more about our beliefs, click here.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What We Believe - What is ‘Reformed’?</image:title>
<image:caption>Reformed churches identify with the protestant reformation – a movement in the 1500-1600s – which saw churches strive to ground their faith and life completely in God's word, as opposed to church tradition or human reason. Churches in the reformed tradition share several key values. These are Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone, Scripture alone, and the overarching commitment that all of life should be directed to God's glory alone.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Mission</image:title>
<image:caption>Our church is centred on Jesus’ words in Matthew 28 … “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”. As we set about this task and anticipate Jesus’ return, as a church we endeavour to: Make … increasing numbers of learners of Jesus. Grow … His people toward maturity in love and knowledge of Jesus. Go … as equipped saints, sent into the world to serve Jesus and build his kingdom Our mission as the Ulverstone Christian Reformed Church is to strive to fulfil this work in all we do. Ulverstone CRC is a member of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia (CRCA). We are also connected with Vision 100, a leadership training and church planting network within Tasmania.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Story - Over 70 years of ministry in Ulverstone and beyond</image:title>
<image:caption>1950s The Christian Reformed Churches of Australia (CRCA) - now over fifty congregations across Australia - was founded upon the establishment of the two congregations of Ulverstone and Penguin on 13th October 1951. Although the church today has a broad and distinctive gospel vision and inclusive of all backgrounds, its original origins was founded on a much humbler purpose. A small community of Dutch immigrants from the Netherlands had settled in the Penguin-Ulverstone region, and a ministry was needed to have the new arrivals eventually integrate into other Protestant churches and Tasmanian life. Although there was no intention of forming a new church denomination; logistics, language and the need for a strongly biblical church, soon made this inevitable. The first minister, Reverend J.A. Schep, who brought his own ‘kit’ home from the Netherlands, wrote, “Our denomination has not been called the ‘Dutch Reformed Churches’ but the ‘Reformed Churches of Australia.’ Therefore, too, I preach in English once a month, and it will be oftener in future. We are building up our own church life not because we are Dutchmen and want to remain Dutchmen, but because we are Christians … we are living in a country that is proud of its freedom. We want freedom to serve the Lord after our conscience”. In those very early days, the Ulverstone Reformed Church used the Free Presbyterian Church building for services each Sunday fortnight, and by 1956 the church had moved to a weatherboard Church of Christ building on Leven Street.</image:caption>

<image:title>Who Is Jesus? - Who is Jesus and what does it mean for us?</image:title>
<image:caption>Millions of people around the world follow Jesus Christ. Why is that? It’s not just that he was a popular prophet, teacher and miracle-worker in his own day. It’s because Jesus was God himself, entering our world as a human being. As the God-man, Jesus rightly claimed to be the king of the whole world. He promised to establish a kingdom that would be a perfect place without suffering, pain or death. As Jesus healed the sick, controlled the weather, and even raised the dead, he gave a glimpse of what this amazing kingdom would be like. Sadly, many people rejected Jesus. They ignored the king and chose to live their own way. In fact, this is what all of us today have done. We have all turned away from the God who made us and loves us. As a result we deserve to be punished with death, separated from God and his wonderful kingdom for all eternity. But the amazing message of Christianity is that Jesus came to take this punishment on himself. Because of his great love, Jesus died on the cross so that anyone who believes in him can be forgiven. Three days later he rose from the dead and appeared to hundreds of eyewitnesses. This resurrection of Jesus proves that he has defeated sin and death. Now Jesus is reigning as king in heaven. He offers forgiveness and eternal life to everyone who repents and believes in him. ‘Repent’ means to turn to Jesus and stop living for ourselves. ‘Believe’ means to trust that Jesus has done everything we need to be saved. So, why does knowing Jesus matter for us? When we repent and believe, we’re welcomed into the kingdom and we begin to live with Jesus as our king. Jesus strengthens us by the Holy Spirit and sends us on a mission to tell others about him. Our lives don’t suddenly become easy, but Jesus gives us abundant love, joy, and peace. We look forward to the day when Jesus returns and establishes his perfect kingdom here on earth.
